Protecting your customers and your customers' brands against flying insects

Why is flying insect control required?

Flying insects are recognized as a problem pest, both by businesses and their customers. Flies are seen as an irritant at the very least -- damaging brands and delivering a poor customer experience --and unhygienic and disease-carrying at worst.

Flying insect control should form an integral part of a business' integrated pest management strategy, with flylights at the heart of your flying insect control plan, in order to deliver a complete protection package to your customers.

How do I decide what flylights I need and where?

There are many types of flylights, each developed to meet the specific requirements of different environments. Generally, these fall under three key types: decorative, glueboards and electric grid, with other more specialist models falling within these categories.

When surveying for flylights, it’s important to understand the activities undertaken in that area in order to specify the correct solution.

Selecting the right flylight is essential to ensure that you meet the needs of both your customer and your service teams, and the majority of cases will require more than one type of flylight in order to meet the needs of different areas of the business. We recommend using the handy Flymap and Positioning Guidance to assist you with where to position flylights and which units to choose.

  • Decorative units – Protecting front-of-house areas and your customer’s reputation

Ideal for: Front-of-house areas (Customer areas in cafés, restaurants, hotel lobbies, reception areas, food service and dining areas).

Designed for use in front-of-house areas, decorative flylights are designed to blend in well with interior décor, discreetly protecting areas which are visible to customers. Insects are attracted by UV light then retained with highly effective glueboards to ensure that flying insects are kept at bay.

  • Electric grid units – Low maintenance fly protection

Ideal for: Commercial and industrial backrooms, storerooms, storage areas and loading areas.

Highly effective and low maintenance, electric grid units are ideal for non-sensitive areas. Electric grid flylights use UV light to attract flying insects to the unit, then use an electric grid to quickly kill the insects, before retaining them in a catch tray to allow hygienic disposal.

  • Glueboard flylights – Ideal for sensitive food preparation and service areas

Ideal for: Commercial front-of-house areas, commercial kitchens, industrial food preparation zones, manufacturing plants.

Glueboard flylights use UV light to attract flying insects to the unit, then use a glueboard to retain the flying insects. As the insect is caught and retained whole, glueboard flylights are ideal for more sensitive environments. Glueboard units should be used in food preparation or processing environments to ensure that flying insects are unable to contaminate the product after they have been caught. Glueboards will need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks as part of a regular service cycle.
