Simplify success by knowing flea life cycle
Pest management professionals need not cringe when fighting flea infestations.
By DR. STUART MITCHELL
With complete metamorphosis, fleas undergo four life stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Placed upon the body, or within the immediate habitat of the host, are white oval eggs. Larvae are small and legless and feed on the dried excrement of adult fleas, dried hosts' blood, particles of skin and dead mites. Newly imbibed blood passes through the guts of adult fleas to produce fecal matter, which in turn provides essential nourishment for offspring metamorphosis.
After three molts, larvae spin silken cocoons to which debris adheres, then enter the pupal stage. Days or months later, pupae emerge as adults. Occasionally, pupae enter an arrested state of development, not emerging as adults until a host(s) is present.
A complete life cycle can range from two weeks to several months. Depending on environmental conditions, the life span of adult fleas varies from a few weeks to a year or more.

With up to 2,625 square feet of coverage, a 360-degree valve allowing for upright and inverted broadcast, crack-and-crevice, void, spot and surface applications, Precor® 2625 simplifies success by eliminating formidable flea infestations. It effectively kills fleas in and on buildings and structures and their immediate surroundings, and on modes of transport. Permitted areas of use include apartment buildings; residential homes; garages; kennels; pet bedding; furniture and other inanimate objects infested with fleas; out buildings; barns; hospitals; and the non-food/feed areas of hotels, office buildings, laboratories, nursing homes, schools, stores, utilities, warehouses; and in non-food areas of restaurants, food manufacturing, processing, and servicing establishments; and on transportation equipment like buses, trucks and trailers.
To treat carpet and other areas of suspected flea infestations, hold the container upside down 2-3 feet from the surface, point the actuator towards the surface, and push the button. Using a sweeping motion, apply a light uniform spray to all surfaces of furniture, rugs, carpets, drapes, and on and around all pet resting areas. Apply to infested areas such as pet beds and pet resting quarters, nearby cracks and crevices, under the edges of rugs and floor coverings, between and under cushions of upholstered furniture, and other areas where fleas may be present. A light misting is all that is required to eliminate fleas and flea larvae. Use care when applying to hardwood floors, using only a light misting. Precor® 2625 can be reapplied in 14 days if needed.
Keep people and pets out of areas during treatment. Do not apply directly to pets or animals. Vacate room after treatment, and ventilate until surfaces are dry before re-occupying. Consult a veterinarian to eliminate fleas on pets.
