FEATURED WEED

Large Crabgrass
Digitaria sanguinalis

WEED DESCRIPTION
This summer annual can be identified by its smooth, pointed leaf blades. It often forms patches in lawns, and plants can grow together to form large clumps. Commonly mistaken for goosegrass or bermudagrass, crabgrass thrives under close mowing conditions and in open areas with thin turfgrass. Crabgrass will start to germinate when soil temperatures reach 55 F for five consecutive days.
CONTROL TIPS
Crabgrass is most effectively controlled using a preemergence herbicide, which inhibits the growth of young seedlings. However, these herbicides need to be in place before germination occurs. Dimension® specialty herbicide provides preemergence and postemergence control. In other words, it attacks what is germinating and puts down a barrier to prevent future growth, making it the only crabgrass control you need all season long.
